This year, India and Germany are celebrating the 50th year of the Signing of the Agreement on Scientific Research and Technological Development. Over the past several years, the collaborations in various S&T areas have created successful outcomes for the benefit of both the countries. To commemorate the 50th anniversary celebrations, an event has been organised on 21 – 22 May 2024 at Darmstadt. The event was coordinated by FAIR/GSI, Darmstadt, Germany.
In connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations, four scientific/thematic workshops were organized on the 21st May as part of the event and the results were fed into the panel discussions on the next day. Accordingly, IGSTC organized one of the four workshops which formed the platform to present IGSTC’s contributions and to gauge options to improve IGSTC’sand other funding programmes which aim to support applied research/industrial research.
As a part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, IGSTC organised a workshop on “Brainstorming forfuture approaches and catalysing Indo-German initiatives on innovation and applied/industrial research”. Considering the involvement/contribution in applied/industrial research, ten participants each from India and Germany were invited to be a part of the delegation to contribute with their expertise and knowledge to discuss various aspects related to the workshop.
During the initial part of the IGSTC workshop, a presentation was made on: about IGSTC, Projects/ initiatives that have been implemented at IGSTC, Success stories, Challenges faced– implementation, administrative.
On 22nd May, the outcome was briefed to the H.E. Parvathaneni Harish, Ambassador of India to Germany and Dr Jens Brandenburg, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Education and Research followed by a panel discussion on the matter. The State Secretary and Ambassador visited the IGSTC stall and were briefed about IGSTC activities. The 50-year logo was formally presented to them during this visit.
The high-level workshop will result into much more concrete initiatives and programs for further strengthening the Indo-German collaboration.
